Madison, Wis., and Indianapolis, Ind. (PRWEB) May 03, 2012

The artistry of endurance sports is featured in a series of fine art photographs by Madison, Wis., photographer Clint Thayer. The photo essay has been selected for exhibition by the National Art Museum of Sport (NAMOS) in Indianapolis, Ind.. The exhibit, entitled “Speed and Motion: Racing to the Finish Line,” will run at NAMOS from May 23 through September, 2012.

“The five images I am showing in this exhibition highlight the artistry of endurance sports, including triathlon, cycling, cyclocross and swimming,” said Thayer. “Racing is primal and intense, and I wanted to depict the fear, trepidation, anxiety, tension and resolution that many endurance athletes experience during a race.”

Thayer is one of seven internationally recognized artists whose work will be displayed. Additional artists include Chris Bucher, Scott Fincher, Sayaka Ganz, Walter Knabe, Thomas Allen Pauly and Mina Papatheodorou-Valyraki.

Elizabeth Varner, executive director of NAMOS, said, “The exhibit features over 30 paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations from many top sport artists worldwide. Representing a wide range of artistic media, Speed and Motion: Racing to the Finish Line captures the heart-pounding drama of racing [in 9 different sports]… we wanted pieces that would capture the power of racing, because everything about racing is larger than life – the crowds, the chaos, the loudness.”

In describing Thayer’s unique approach and perspective, Varner said, “I like his photography immensely. I feel he is within the top three sport art photographers I have seen….While Clint Thayer has the technical capacity for conventional sports photographic technique, I think what sets him apart is that his style really crosses the boundary into true sport art. His work is so different; it captures the emotion and intensity of sport. They’re some of the most dynamic images I’ve seen.“

“I think that the power of motion in fine art photography is that it can be a bridge between representational images and abstractions,” said Thayer. “I use motion like I use light: to help frame and sculpt the visual narrative that’s in front of me.”

Photographer Tom McInvaille, a past special assignment photographer for the United States Olympic Team, said, “Clint Thayer’s sport photography gives a fresh approach to an overly clichéd and highly predictable genre…[he] gives us a glimpse into the larger world of an athlete’s life. I’ve had the pleasure of watching Mr. Thayer’s work evolve into easily accessible yet complex stories. This is an attribute found in only the best of photographs, sport or not.”

Founded in 1959, NAMOS maintains one of the largest collections of fine art depicting sport in the United States. The museum is dedicated to encouraging artists engaged in the genre, and also to collect, preserve, and share the best examples of sport art NAMOS can acquire. “The founder of NAMOS, Germain G. Glidden, was a portrait artist and champion squash player,” said NAMOS Executive Director Elizabeth C. Varner. “Glidden believed that sport art is like the Olympics: it has the power to bring together people from all over the world in peace,” said Varner.

Over 40 sports are represented in the over 900 paintings, sculptures and photographs at NAMOS. Artists whose works are included in the permanent collection include George Bellows, Ogden Pliessner, Winslow Homer, Ray Ellis, James Fiorentino, Joe Brown and Alfred Boucher.

The museum’s first home was in Madison Square Garden in New York. It has been in Indianapolis since 1990 and is located at 850 West Michigan Street, Indianapolis, Ind. NAMOS is open free to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. For group tours and weekend hours call 317.274.3627 or e-mail ecvarner@iupui.edu; for more information see http://www.namos.iupui.edu. An opening reception for Speed and Motion: Racing to the Finish Line will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

The series by Clint Thayer is presented as large-format (60” x 40”) limited edition giclée archival prints on canvas, and was sponsored in part by members of the Trek Midwest Team.

Clint Thayer is based in Madison, WI and is available for assignment worldwide. He owns Focal Flame Photography LLC, specializing in sports and action photography for individual athletes and commercial entities. For more information on Thayer, visit focalflame.com.

West Hempstead, NY (PRWEB) May 13, 2012

Nearly three months after moving from its Hempstead, NY home, Caribbean food retailer Sam’s Caribbean Marketplace will officially reopen its doors on Saturday May 19, 2012, in a newly-refurbished, state-of-the-art facility at 225 Hempstead Turnpike in the quiet Long Island hamlet of West Hempstead, NY. The festivities kickoff at 11:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m.

“It was time for us to make that major leap of faith,” said founder and CEO, Andrew Morris. “While our former location served us well for many years, the room for growth and development were limited and extremely challenging as we had long outgrown the 1600 square-foot facility that we were leasing. Through our retail location and our website, http://www.sams247.com, we have served close to two million customers throughout the United States, Canada, the UK, and in about sixty other countries,” Morris said.

Known to many customers as “Mr. Sam,” Mr. Morris credits the company’s success primarily to its dedicated, highly-motivated and hardworking employees, and to the unwavering support of its loyal customers. Consumers craving traditional Caribbean food products and a friendly, family-type atmosphere will travel from as far east as Bay Shore, Long Island and from as far west as New Jersey to shop at Sam’s.

Designed to significantly improve customer experience, the new facility is light years ahead of the previous location. The elaborate 4,000 square-foot marketplace continues to boast Sam’s signature array of colorfully packaged Caribbean food and health products, primarily from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Grenada, Dominica, and St. Lucia.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the new location is its “Café on the Island,” where the jerk wings and the fresh-baked Jamaican-style beef patties wait in abundance to jump-start your taste buds and make eating a pleasurable experience. Best of all, a Jerk Chicken lunch, including generous portions of rice and beans and vegetables, starts at only .99.

Other notable features found in the new facility are an ice cream parlor and juice bar, a dining area with a view, 200 square-feet of commercial freezing and cooling equipment, a showcase packed with cricket gear, and, to any driver’s delight, 8,000 square feet of free parking. Additionally, there is a new “Pack and Ship” department which serves the company’s far-flung online customers who order through http://www.sams247.com, as well as its in-store customers who can now purchase Caribbean groceries and have them packed and shipped to loved ones worldwide.

“The Sam’s expansion project clearly is a major undertaking, and it would not have been possible without strong financial backing,” said Morris, the Caribbean-born entrepreneur. “Thanks to the National Development Council’s Grow America and Grow Nassau Funds, two loans were provided to turn a far-fetched dream into this reality.”

The Sam’s grand opening event will include over a dozen vendor exhibitions, food samplings and taste testing, lots of prizes and surprises, discounts, and numerous outdoor activities. Digicel, Lime, JN Money Transfer, VP Records, Grace Foods, Golden Krust Bakery, Royal Caribbean Bakery, Tropic Isle Living, Ice Cream Factory, HTB, Oscar’s Seasonings, Bermudez and Ginseng Up are a few of the brands participating in the day’s events. Irie Jam Media will provide a live radio broadcast and online audio streaming.

The West Hempstead Chamber of Commerce-sponsored official ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 1:30 pm, and will follow the grand opening of two other businesses: Hats Off Restaurant and Bar at 205 Hempstead Turnpike, and KW Kitchens at 207 Hempstead Turnpike.

Company Information: Sam’s Caribbean Marketplace was established in December 1993. The company offers a wide variety of Caribbean foods from ackees to yams, Caribbean cookbooks, and an extensive collection of reggae, calypso, and Caribbean gospel CDs. The company also stocks Caribbean flags and novelties as well as health and beauty products, such as Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO), ointments and traditional herbal remedies.

State-of-the-art protective gear provider G-Form brings their RPT-based products to the 2012 Canadian Wireless Trade Show September 12th and 13th.
Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) May 11, 2012

Gazaro, the Price Intelligence company that gives retailers more, better, faster, and smarter visibility into real-time, market-level product and pricing activity, announced today it has been selected as a Finalist for Red Herring’s Top 100 Americas award. It is a prestigious list honoring the year’s most promising private technology ventures in North America.

Top North American retailers use Gazaro Price Intelligence to optimize their pricing strategies so they can address the growing pressures of cross-channel, cross-retailer price transparency. With Gazaro’s help, retailers are now better positioned to achieve their overall revenue and margin goals. Gazaro’s proprietary Extensible Fuzzy Reasoning Engine (XFiRE) comprises one of the world’s largest databases of retail pricing, with over 1 billion price points, representing over 30 million monitored products, and over 7 million new price points being added daily.

The Red Herring editorial team selected the most innovative companies from a pool of hundreds from across North America. The nominees are evaluated on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management, execution of strategy, and integration into their respective industries.

“It is very exciting to be recognized by Red Herring for the value and innovation of our Price Intelligence platform for retailers,” said Alexander Rink, CEO of Gazaro. “While the core technology platform has been under development for four years, we have experienced tremendous growth amongst retailers in the last year alone. It’s been very rewarding to become one of the market leaders in Price Intelligence, and to consistently win business in head-to-head competitions, based on our ability to deliver more and better data, faster than anyone else.”

This unique assessment of potential is complemented by a review of the actual track record and standing of a company, which allows Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument for discovering and advocating the greatest business opportunities in the industry.

Finalists for the 2012 edition of the Red Herring 100 Americas award are selected based upon their technological innovation, management strength, market size, investor record, customer acquisition, and financial health. During the several months leading up to the announcement, hundreds of companies in the, security, Web 2.0, software, hardware, life sciences, cloud, mobile and other sectors completed their submissions to qualify for the award.

The Finalists are asked to present their winning strategies at the Red Herring Americas Forum in Santa Monica, California, May 21-23, 2012. The Top 100 winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony the evening of May 23 at the event.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 02, 2012

Catch the Moment, the nation’s leading provider of experiential marketing and photo activation services since 1998, has just released a video case study documenting a recent RFID (radio frequency identification) program conducted during a marketing tour that visited various division I college football games around the country during the college football season. This program tracked customer engagements while integrating social media to deliver remarkable performance metrics for two of the nation’s most respected brands. Fans were wowed with the real-time Facebook integration of custom-branded photos and messaging as they took part in various sponsor activities.

Combining in-action footage from the on-site consumer engagement with social media screenshots to illustrate the real-time viral impact, the case study offers valuable insight about successfully conducting an RFID activation. The narration follows the program from its conceptual stages, through the development of a custom engagement solution, to its execution, and results. Please visit the following link to view this experiential marketing case study by Catch the Moment (registration required): http://www.catchthemoment.com/CaseStudies/Lists/Gate%20Request/RFID.aspx

“With the growing demand for integrated marketing solutions that allow brands to engage consumers, drive lead generation, and amplify social media marketing, photo activation remains the easiest and most cost-effective means for experiential marketing agencies to achieve an all in one solution,” says Mike Kramer, Catch the Moment’s National Marketing Director. “Pairing those event photography capabilities, such as green screen, with tracking tools like RFID bracelets, QR codes, and bar codes result in cutting edge experiences for consumers and impactful results for brands.”

With field operations throughout the United States, and the ability to lease equipment for activations in the U.S. or overseas, Catch the Moment offers custom marketing solutions to experiential agencies and brands that are looking to enhance consumer experiences in public event settings of all kinds including sporting events, festivals, trade shows, and concerts.

Evelyn Castillo-Bach, founder of UmeNow

Pembroke Pines, Fl (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

UmeNow announced today it applauds the Federal Trade Commission complaints against three giant social networks, the most recent involving Myspace. The FTC is an agency that describes itself as working “for consumers to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices and to provide information to help spot, stop, and avoid them.”

“The FTC should be commended for all it does to protect Americans from fraudulent practices by corporations who would otherwise do as they please within the marketplace,” stated Evelyn Castillo-Bach, CEO of UmeNow, the start-up social network described as the Smart People’s Network because it has banned all tracking and all ads.

Today, FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz is scheduled to participate in a panel discussion about privacy and social networking at the Common Sense Media symposium, The Impact of Media on the Health & Well-Being of Children. Chairman Leibowitz will discuss the FTC’s recent work related to privacy, including FTC cases that involved social networking sites Myspace, Google Buzz, and Facebook.

“It makes us stronger as a country when the leader of the FTC explains to the public why privacy is important in today’s digital world. Most people are still in denial and don’t really understand that when their privacy is violated that information can be used against them,” stated Castillo-Bach, who is also an outspoken privacy advocate who blogs on privacy issues inside the In the News section of UmeNow.

The FTC typically allows companies to enter into a consent agreement, which legally does not constitute an admission of wrongdoing. The FTC typically limits civil penalty to ,000 per violation, if a company violates terms of the settlement.

“True, the FTC penalty of ,000 per violation is pocket change to large corporations worth billions,” stated Castillo-Bach.

The subject line of each complaint filed by the FTC against Google, Facebook and Myspace is informative and listed below:

Myspace Settles FTC Charges That It Misled Millions of Users … May 9, 2012

Facebook Settles FTC Charges That It Deceived Consumers By Failing To Keep Privacy Promises … November 29, 2011.

FTC Charges Deceptive Privacy Practices Google’s Rollout of Its Buzz Social Network … March 30, 2011.

In the Matter of Myspace LLC, FTC File No. 102 3058

In the Matter of Google Inc., a corporation, FTC File No. 102 3136

In the Matter of Facebook, Inc., a corporation, FTC File No. 092 3184

The Commission issues an administrative complaint when it has “reason to believe” that the law has been or is being violated, and it appears to the Commission that a proceeding is in the public interest. The complaint is not a finding or ruling that the respondent has actually violated the law. A consent agreement is for settlement purposes only and does not constitute an admission by the respondent that the law has been violated. When the Commission issues a consent order on a final basis, it carries the force of law with respect to future actions. Each violation of such an order may result in a civil penalty of up to ,000.

Collegiate Nation–also known as GoCNCN.com– is the first and only private network exclusively for college students. Castillo-Bach was interviewed earlier this year by Miami television to address privacy issues impacting college students.

Both UmeNow.com and Collegiate Nation are known for fiercely protecting the privacy rights of its members. All ads, third party apps and games are banned because they are back doors to tracking and extracting private information. Castillo-Bach earned her M.S. in 1993 from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She has traveled extensively in Ethiopia and in the Balkans, accompanying her Danish husband who is a lawyer.

FORA.tv, the leading online destination for video programs from the world’s best conferences and events, will broadcast the latest Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) debate, “Should College Football Be Banned?” Corruption and a growing concern for head injury have put college football in the spotlight. Are football programs’ millions in profits exploitation? Or are they still a celebration of amateur sport? Does football’s inherent danger and violence have any place in institutions of higher learning? Or does it provide young men with educational opportunities they would not otherwise have?

The debate will be streamed live next Tuesday, May 8th at 6:45 pm EST at http://fora.tv/live/intelligencesquared_us/college_football. Following the live event, FORA.tv will offer the debate as a free on-demand program, and the full video and highlights will be available to share and embed.

In support of the motion are Malcolm Gladwell, The New Yorker staff writer and author, The Tipping Point, and Buzz Bissinger, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author, Friday Night Lights. Arguing against the motion are Tim Green, former NFL defensive end and football broadcaster, and Jason Whitlock, FOXSports.com national columnist.

The moderator will be John Donvan, correspondent for ABC News. In a career that spans more than two decades for ABC News, Donvan previously served as the Chief White House Correspondent, along with postings in Moscow, London, Jerusalem and Amman.

Sturgeon Bay, WI (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

Because of the repetitive twisting involved in their sports, many golf ers, tennis players, baseball and softball players, and gymnasts suffer intermittent or even chronic low back and neck pain. They are continually twisting forcefully and abruptly to one side, putting intense strain into their spines. Many take painkillers, muscle relaxants, and anti-inflammatory medications in an attempt to continue playing. Others search out the services of physical therapists, Chiropractors, and physiatrists to help cope with their pain.

The ATM2 was developed to treat resistant spinal pain conditions, and was found to have an added bonus. Not only did it relieve the pain very quickly, even pain of many year’s duration, it also enhanced the athlete’s performance.

When the muscles supporting the spine are injured through hard use or improper movement, the brain “turns off” the muscles to protect them from further injury. When the body compensates by using other muscles not designed to do the original job, faulty movements lead to further injury. As the muscles slowly heal, often they are not “turned back on”. Further compensations are made, leading to a downward spiral of further injuries.

This is similar to a dog with a broken leg. The veterinarian places the leg in a cast for six weeks to allow the leg to heal. When the cast is removed, the brain says this is a “bum paw” and the dog will not use the leg again. Therefore, the vet will tape up the opposite leg, forcing the dog to use the leg, retraining the muscles, nerves, and brain. After three days, the dog will return to a normal life.

The same result can be accomplished in five to ten minutes by using Active Therapeutic Movements on the ATM2. By precisely repositioning the injured joint and muscles, externally supporting them in an upright, weight bearing position, the muscles can be activated and retrained to function properly.

The ATM2 therapy can transition almost any painful movement into 100% pain-free movement with full range of movement in just minutes. This pain-free movement indicates that the brain and nerves have transitioned from a pathological muscle activation and recruitment pattern, to a fully normal function and pattern. The brain and nerves now have the ability to re-negotiate an improved, pain-free range of movement.

When World Long Drive Golfing Champion Gerry James first used the ATM2, he had an immediate 25 degree increase in his rotational range of movement. This correlates with a significantly increased driving distance. As Gerry stated, “For a person that trains six days a week and is at the peak of his performance, this is truly amazing. Can you imagine how this will affect non-professional players?”

As any golfer swinging a club with a sore back will tell you: range of movement is everything.

When using the ATM2, incredible changes are commonly seen in increased ranges of movement and relief of pain after the failure of physical therapy, exercises, Chiropractic, and medical treatment. Many times nerve tension or disc compression has masked the underlying movement impairment, which leads to treatment failure. When the movement impairment is corrected, the nerve tension and disc compression disappears, and the patient often returns to a level of heath that he or she has not experienced in years.

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 9 May 2012

Pimlico Fitness (London) is the latest club to join the world’s largest gym access programme, payasUgym.com. With a superb location in the heart of London, Pimlico Fitness prides itself on its friendly ‘local’ feel and will be offering day passes, one month passes and three month memberships through payasUgym.com.

With over 300 clubs already involved across the country, payasUgym is the largest network of its kind and has picked up numerous awards for innovation since launching just 15 months ago. The service and enables people to use gyms and health clubs across the UK on a flexible basis with the objective of getting more people involved in fitness.

Having initially launched in London in February 2011, payasUgym.com has grown rapidly and includes gyms and health clubs of all shapes and sizes. Gym users are attracted by the flexibility of the service and the variety of clubs involved, whilst gym operators are keen to benefit from the new customers that start using their facilities thanks to the marketing carried out by payasUgym.com. Gaining the support of gym operators has been key to the rapid expansion of this free-to-participate service.

CEO Jamie Ward said, “payasUgym.com has proved to be hugely attractive to new gym users with over 3.5 million customer searches being carried out in the last 12 months. However, the key to the expansion of the service has been to demonstrate to gym operators that it is in their interests to offer a wider variety of services to get more people involved in sport and exercise.”

To use the service customers simply create a free online account which they top-up with credit, similar to the process of topping-up a pay as you go mobile phone. They can then use this credit to buy passes for gym use at any of the listed gyms and health clubs which range from single day passes and a variety of short term gym membership options.

Company Information:

The idea for payasUgym.com was created by Jamie Ward and Neil Harmsworth after discussing the difficulties in finding decent gyms in London that you can just go to on a one-off basis.

payasUgym.com was launched in February 2011 and currently offers over 300+ gyms in the UK and is now the world’s largest gym access programme.
